New Court - we're nearly there!

All-weather court resurfacing planned for August 2006.

Court Resurfacing and New Court Proposal

The Committee has announced that the three all-weather courts (5, 6 & 7) are to be resurfaced in August 2006 and, funds permitting, a new all-weather court will be built next to Court 5.

Funding is available for the resurfacing but £20,000 still needs to be raised for the new court. The Committee is looking to the membership, local businesses and any other organizations to help raise the funds be it through subscriptions, donations, grants, loans or sponsorship deals.

Sponsorship Opportunity

Any businesses looking to raise their profile in the local area are invited to sponsor our new court. We can offer display advertising (on the court), links and acknowledgements on our well-established website, company logos on our teamwear, mentions in press releases etc. etc. For more information or to discuss options, please contact:
Richard Garrett, Hon. Treasurer on 020 8274 0620.

Letter to Members from Richard Garrett, Honorary Treasurer

Saturday, 1st July 2006

Hello all,

Proposal
As most of you will be aware, the club has been looking into resurfacing our tarmac courts (No.s 5, 6 & 7) as they are well overdue for this (Court 7 is about twenty-five years overdue) and are not draining properly in wet weather. Some of you will also be aware that we are looking into the possibility of building another tarmac court beside Court 5 (where the long grass is now). We have just enough room to do this and have had a few contractors in to confirm it would be possible and to give us some quotes for doing the job.

Reasons For A New Court
During club sessions in the winter when the shale courts are out of action there are often far more people coming down to play than can be accommodated on our existing three tarmac courts, so an extra one would cut down on waiting time. (We will, of course, also be looking into getting both Court 7 and the new court properly floodlit).

Funding
As things currently stand, the club has enough money to resurface courts 5, 6 & 7 (our main priority) and this work is going to go ahead later this summer, but it does not yet have sufficient funds to pay for the building of a new court, which will cost approximately £20,000. The club's main source of income is, of course, our membership subscriptions, but we also started a campaign at the end of last year to help raise extra funds towards both the resurfacing and building a new court, and already this has contributed nearly a thousand pounds. However, a small number of members have said that they would be willing to lend the club a significant proportion of the cost of building a new court (so far we have been offered over half the total cost) in order to enable this to happen sooner rather than later.

Request for Help
So we on the committee thought we'd better get in touch with you, the membership, to see how many others might like to help out in a similar way. Of course, we do understand that this is not going to be something that the majority of members would either want to do, or would be in a position to do. But as we have already been offered such a large amount we thought we'd better fully explore this possibility. We would be open to any form of assistance, be it an offer of a loan of any size, or an offer to pay several years' worth of subscriptions in advance (and at the current rate), or any other arrangement that suited.

If any of you would like to discuss this further please feel free speak to either Helen or me (confidentially, of course).

Richard
