Summary
Porous Macadam Courts
The three porous macadam courts were refurbished in August 2002. The superb 10m high-level floodlights were installed on two of the courts in April 2002. Low-level security lighting was installed on the third court in August 2004. This lighting provides reasonable coverage for a practice court but would not be suitable for match-play due to the low height of the lights (high lobs would be difficult to track)!
Porous macam courts are a slow paced type of court, excellent for teaching beginners and juniors. They drain very quickly after wet-weather and are painted with non-slip acrylic paint. We employ the services of the Complete Weed Control company of experts to keep the courts free from weeds and moss. We also ensure the courts are pressure washed on a regular basis to keep them in good condition.

Shale Courts
We have four shale courts all operating with a high-pressure, automatic, sprinker system.
Shale is a type of clay court (known as blaes in Scotland). Traditional shale is made from brick-dust layed on a bed of clinker (ash). Shale courts are medium paced which makes them faster than European clay courts and porous macadam but slower than grass. Our courts make excellent practice courts for players wishing to enter clay-court tournaments. Please see our Shale Court Information page for more details on the playing characterists and benefits of shale. This page also contains information on maintenance and refurbishment of shale courts which other shale court clubs may find helpful.
All four courts were refurbished in Spring 2004 and now boast a fully-automatic, high-pressure, sprinkler system. The courts are kept weed-free by Complete Weed Control. We always brush the courts after play and they are rolled on a weekly basis when conditions require it.
